Events – ICASUS Workshops & Engagements
Why Events Matter
Workshops and public events are central to ICASUS. They bring together Indigenous leaders,
policymakers, DND/CAF officials, Arctic scholars, and civil society experts to validate research,
co‑develop strategies, and ensure policy options are grounded in lived experience and operational realities.
All events are delivered in a hybrid format (in‑person + virtual) to maximize accessibility for Northern
communities and remote participants.
Winnipeg Workshop – Preliminary Findings Validation
When: January/February 2026
Where: University of Winnipeg & online (hybrid)
Participants: Indigenous leaders, Arctic governance representatives, climate‑security researchers,
early‑career practitioners
Focus: Validate Phase 1 findings (climate and geopolitical risk assessments).
Discuss Indigenous co‑management models as governance frameworks.
Identify immediate operational challenges for CAF (infrastructure, permafrost, sea‑ice).
Outputs: Validated Geopolitical & Climate Risk Assessment; preliminary notes for policy options.

Ottawa Workshop – Policy Options & Scenario Mapping
When: March 2026
Where: Ottawa, Ontario & online (hybrid)
Participants: Federal policymakers, DND/CAF officials, Indigenous representatives, Arctic scholars,
civil society
Focus: Present draft sovereignty and climate‑security policy options.
Facilitate scenario‑mapping exercises to test Arctic futures under different geopolitical and climate
pathways.Strengthen Indigenous–government dialogue on defence and security cooperation.
Outputs: Draft Policy Options Paper; workshop proceedings; scenario‑mapping outcomes.

Indigenous & Stakeholder Participation
Travel Support: Subsidies available for ~6 Indigenous representatives to attend in person (Winnipeg
and Ottawa).
Honoraria: Provided to Indigenous participants for equitable participation.
Accessibility: Online participation with translation and facilitation support to reduce digital barriers.]
Public Engagement
Beyond formal workshops, ICASUS will host: – Public Briefings: Updates in Canadian communities with
Indigenous presence.
– Podcasts/Webinars: Thematic discussions shared via YouTube and CRRIC platforms.
– Translations: Select materials adapted into Inuktitut and other Northern languages to expand reach.
